02 / LOCATE
Find your focus.
Use the energy map and automatic source localization to guide your virtual microphone placement.
03 / REFINE
Listen. Adjust. Create.
Change direction, pickup pattern and separation strength while hearing the result in real time.
SHAPE WHAT YOU HEAR
A different take. The same recording.

Build your own microphone setup.
Create and steer multiple virtual microphones within one Ambisonics recording. Return to different directions as your project develops.

Match the pattern to the purpose.
Use familiar options such as cardioid and figure-of-8 to change the spatial response of each virtual microphone.

Bring a source closer.
Increase separation to reduce surrounding sound. Additional processing uses blind source separation and can also change the source’s timbre.

BEFORE YOU START
A few things worth knowing.
Do I need a ZYLIA microphone?
No. Beamformer processes compatible Ambisonics audio, including recordings from other manufacturers. Check that your files use AmbiX format and an order supported by your chosen build.
Can I use it with ordinary mono or stereo recordings?
Beamformer is designed for Ambisonics material. A conventional mono or stereo recording does not contain the Ambisonics sound field needed to steer virtual microphones.
Does stronger separation always sound better?
It depends on the result you want. Higher separation reduces surrounding sound, but the additional processing can change timbre. Adjust it while listening to find the right balance for the source.
Where can I get help with my setup?
